2

Long ago, a thief saw a large bell hanging at the gate of a house.

3

The bell was too heavy to carry, so he decided to smash it and take it away in pieces.

4

He swung his hammer and struck it. The bell boomed so loudly that the sound travelled far away.

5

He jumped in fright and quickly covered his own ears.

He thought, “If I cannot hear it, no one else can hear it either.”

6

But everyone else heard it, and they caught him at once.

7

Deceiving yourself cannot deceive other people.

8
